MEET THE DEACONS & DEACONESSES

Dr. Pamela Lewis
Dr. Pamela Lewis has been a member of NDBC since 2013, where she currently serves as a Deaconess, Usher and is the leader of the Youth Ministry. Dr. Lewis has a Doctorate Degree in Doctor of Religious Education (D. R. E.), where she works to enhance God’s kingdom work with the youth. She has two sons, Jay and Andrew, and three grandchildren. Dr. Lewis enjoys doing whatever the grandkids want, like, attending AAU, YMCA, high school basketball games, or hanging out at indoor waterparks. Dr. Lewis retired from the U.S. Army and Department of Defense (DoD) Civil Service, serving as Senior J-1/4 HR advisor to the Director and Deputy Director for the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO). Greg Gartrell
Greg is a native New Yorker who grew up in Brooklyn NY. He attended Brooklyn Tech HS and is a graduate of Troy State University and Wayland Baptist University. Greg has served his country in the US Air Force and retired after 21 years of service. He is currently employed as a Program Manager with the Department of Defense. He has been married to the former Valerie Michell Baker of Jamaica Queens NY for over 33 years. They have four children, Jamel, married to Kecia, Valentine, Toni, and Isaac; and two grandchildren, Elijah and Brianna. Demetrius Wilson
Demetrius has been a member of NDBC since 2013 and serves one of the diaconate leaders. His hometown is Columbia, SC. He and his wife Latasha have been married for 17 years and have two children, Jaylen and Briyana. Demetrius is a Program Manager for a federal contractor. He spent nearly 12 years as an active duty US Air Force officer and still serves as a weekend Air Force Reservist. Demetrius enjoys supporting his kids in sports, the arts, and other activities; short getaways with his family to visit family, friends, or see fun; and historical attractions and spending time with his wife over a good meal or movie whenever they can find the opportunity. Calandra Simms
Calandra Simms has been a member of NDBC since 2016. She is a graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. A North Carolina native, Calandra now resides in Fredericksburg, VA with her husband Carl Simms. Together they are the proud parents of three children, Bryan (and wife Megan), Christian and Faith. Therisa Adams
Therisa has been a member of New Destiny Baptist Church since 2010. She is one of the Diaconate leaders and a member of the Exaltation Praise Team. For 34 years, she has been married to Elder Louis “Champ” Adams, Jr. They have two grown daughters, TaMyra and Iesha and five grandchildren who are their grand hearts. Therisa is a supervisor at Navy Federal Credit Union where she has been employed for almost 30 years. She enjoys spending time with family, helping other and spoiling the grand hearts. Roberta Douglas
Roberta, deaconess emeritus, has been a member of NDBC since 2010. She is a native of New Jersey. She is a graduate of Elizabeth General Hospital School of Nursing. Has a BS degree in Social Work and a Master’s degree in Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a retired CEO from the Department of Human Resources State of New Jersey. She is the widow of Deacon Alford Douglas and mother of three children Janean Baskett-Martin, Rico Baskett and the late Aaron Baskett. Two grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She loves studying the Word of God and her favorite scripture is Hebrew 6:10-20.

Gregory R. Jones II
Greg has been a member of NDBC since 2015. He is married to Shanita Jones and they have two children. Greg is the owner of Jonestown Farms. He enjoys gardening and fishing but he is an avid hunter and loves archery. His favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6. Greg looks forward to connecting with you and your family! Al Curry
Albert Curry, Jr is a native of South Carolina. He is a graduate of Savannah State University, Savannah Ga and Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California. He retired with 26 years of service in the U. S. Navy and currently works as a government civilian for the US Coast Guard. He is married to Irish Curry and has three children, a son, Gordon married to Charmie and two daughters, Ryan and Morgan Curry. (Cares for families with last names beginning in S,T,U,V)

Irish Curry
Irish Curry is a native of South Carolina. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C. She retired after 30 years of service from the U.S. Navy. She is married to Albert Curry, Jr. and they have a son, Gordon married to Charmie and two daughters, Ryan and Morgan.

Claudia Bayless
Claudia has been a member of NDBC since 2012. She has a daughter, Cydnee who resides in Atlanta, Georgia. Though born and raised in Spotsylvania County she spent 38 years in California, retiring after 31 years of service at the University of California at Berkeley. She loves all sports, but has a passion for bowling and basketball. Her go-to word from the Lord can be found in Jeremiah 29:11. Claudia looks forward to connecting with you and your family!
